What is Peco Technology?
Recently indoor air quality has become an increased hazard, as the EPA ranked indoor air quality as one of the top five environmental risk factors to human health, thus having an air purification system in your home could improve overall air quality in your environment. Air purification systems vary depending on the technology backing the air filtration process in each air purifier. An air purifier is a device which removes contaminants from the air in a room to improve the overall air quality in the environment. Each air purifier has their own technology they implement in their system to help remove airborne particulates and chemical compounds from the air. One technology that has garnered attention recently is the Peco technology utilized in the Molekule air purification system. However, does the Peco technology work to destroy pollutants in the air as well as destroy chemicals in the environment?
Peco Technology vs EnviroKlenz Technology
The Peco technology claims to eliminate pollutants at a microscopic scale including VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and viruses, allowing the full removal of a spectrum of indoor air pollutants. Peco (Photo Electrochemical Oxidation) utilizes free radicals to oxidize pollutants in the air and uses nanotechnology which they say gives it the ability to destroy pollutants 1000 times smaller than a traditional HEPA filter. However, the photocatalytic oxidation that the Molekule utilizes may work well against strict hydrocarbons, it would not be effective against inorganic or organic molecules with halogen, sulfur, phosphorous etc.
Whereas the EnviroKlenz technology has been proven to be a highly efficient “adsorptive neutralizer” for chemicals. When the EnviroKlenz materials come into contact with chemicals, the metal oxides’ active sites first capture the chemical then initiate the neutralization process. The EnviroKlenz technology has been tested and certified for a broad array of chemical pollution mitigation including the highly toxic chemical warfare agents. The technology has been tested by the following laboratories for chemical breakdown and neutralization applications:

- Edgewood Chemical Biological Command
- Coal Mines Technical Services
- Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapon (OPCW)
Peco Technology Effectiveness Results
The EnviroKlenz and Molekule were tested in an environmental chamber against a variety of chemical compounds. In the graphs below, the EnviroKlenz Air System’s effectiveness is represented by the blue line and the Molekule by the orange. The results show the level of effectiveness of each air purification system and their technology.
